10 Usability Heuristics

Role: UX Designer

Platform: SwyftUI

Timeline: Oct 2021 - April 2022

Goal

To explore how design knowledge can come to life through code — transforming abstract usability concepts into a tangible, interactive experience using SwiftUI.

Apple Scholarship Winner 2021

WWDC Swift Student Challenge Submission

This project was my third WWDC Swift Student Challenge submission and my second time exploring SwiftUI independently. As a designer stepping into code, the biggest challenge was translating my design knowledge into something interactive — but that was exactly what made the process exciting.

Overview

In “10 Usability Heuristics,” you help a team of developers fix the poor design of a fictional ride-sharing app — all in under one minute — using Jakob Nielsen’s 10 Usability Heuristics. It’s a fast-paced, hands-on way to explore usability principles through playful interaction.

What are Heuristics?

Heuristic evaluation is a usability inspection method used to uncover design issues in user interfaces. Nielsen’s heuristics are among the most influential in UX design — broad “rules of thumb” that guide designers toward more intuitive, human-centered experiences.

Installation

To try “10 Usability Heuristics” yourself, download the zipped .playgroundbook file and open it in Swift Playgrounds 3.4.1 or later on macOS.
